universal feelings as aesthetic parables of our inner world

collective memory

"Grit Richter enquires into the representation of memories and experiences in her paintings. Her works are shifting between abstraction and figuration, between the immediacy of utopian landscapes and the momentariness of a snapshot. Within her work, she is searching for a way to visualize universal feelings that function as aesthetic parables of our inner world. They explore the alliance of the conscious and unconscious, the individual and the collective memory. Richter’s installations combine painting, wall painting, sculpture and space-consuming drapery. The different means of expression share one visual universe that is mostly two-dimensional and abstract. However, it always reveals some figurative elements which are often bizarre, humorous or soothing – through their combination of colors, forms and materials." (Galerie Tanja Wagner)
